WebInteractive Usage Policy

Our policy on the use of WebInteractive:
1) Technical staff who use WebInteractive must be properly trained.
2) Technical staff will not assume/take over a user’s computer without permission that is documented on the web site.
3) The user will be asked to only leave those windows open that show the problem or dialogue box.
4) Technical staff will not repair, review, or alter any aspect of the user’s computer beyond what is requested.

Abuse

If a consultant or staff member should see something on a K-State computer that is questionable, the policy is located at http://www.ksu.edu/vpast/security.html.

Any suspected violation of our policies (which includes violations of the law) should be reported as stated in the policy. Once reported, the responsibility lies with the appropriate administrators to sort out whether someone in fact violated our policy and what to do about it. All information about the incident is to remain confidential and is not to be discussed with other co-workers or any other person unless requested by the manager or administrator, in which he/she will advise the consultant in what information he/she is able to discuss and to whom it can be discussed with.

Misuse of WebInteractive

Any malicious use of WebInteractive will not be tolerated. If in fact the consultant is found to have used WebInteractive maliciously, the account will be terminated and his/her further employment with the University will be evaluated. Also, if criminal offenses have occurred, the proper authorities will be notified about the offense.

2. Appropriate Use

Acceptable conduct in and use of this environment must conform with: existing University policies, guidelines, and codes of conduct; KSU’s Web, E-Mail, Intellectual Property and Information Resource Policies; Kansas Board of Regents policies and guidelines; the usage guidelines of other networks linked to KSU’s networks or computer systems, and existing local, state and federal laws.

4. Examples of prohibited use

posting or mailing obscene materials

introducing destructive software e.g., “virus” software or attempting system crashes

attempting to circumvent or subvert any system’s security measures

5. Reporting violations
All users and units should report any discovered unauthorized access attempts or other improper usage of KSU computers, networks, or other information processing equipment. If you observe, or have reported to you, a security or abuse problem, with any University computer or network facilities, including violations of this policy, you should notify (first, your manager or Rebecca Gould) the Vice Provost for Academic Services and Technology, the Director of Computing & Network Services or other appropriate administrator.
